“poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance.”
- carl sandburg
Poems are a fun way to express ourselves, not just things to read. They can turn a blank page into an orchestra of voices, emotions, and music. They can take you up the ladder of literature (for appreciation and creation both), and revolutionize the way you view the world. All this, without the rigid shackles of grammar and syntax (phew)!
While poems can be penned by anyone by just letting one’s thoughts flow freely, having an understanding of the tools of ideation and composition, can give one more ways to organize and articulate (and even surprise) oneself.
In this 5-day workshop, participants will be introduced to curated poetic samples, learn to play with ideas and words, and be encouraged to boldly “create their own voice” (as opposed to just listening to others).
Day 1: Soul Imprints (Use poetry to introduce yourself!)
Day 2: Rhythm & Rhyme (Poetry vibes with Art & Music)
Day 3: Word Pictures (Wordplay, imagery, and figurative language)
Day 4: Poetic Persuasions (Explore famous poetry to learn techniques)
Day 5: Plant a Poem (Final portfolio and celebration of written work)
