Nandini Parekh

A passionate book buff

Nandini has been an educator for 19 years, during which time, she has infected her students with her passion for reading. She has worked with students from ages 4 to 12, mainly teaching English as a subject.

Nandini has established The Readery at Riverside School – a space that was created to engage students and get them excited about reading. Through activities like storytelling, book reads, book club discussions etc., students were encouraged to read more, and read a variety of books. Nandini ran The Readery for two years.

Along with books, she loves cinema, working with paper as a medium, and baking different types of breads.

"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island."

-Walt Disney

Vacation is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean reading has to follow suit, right? In fact, books that take you to places far and near are a great way to ease into a new school year. And perhaps, a perfect getaway from the routine.

Book buffs will tell you how relaxing and engaging reading is, but usually it is thought of as a solitary activity. However, wouldn't it be nice if you could take your best friends – the books – to your other friends, to spread and multiply the joys of reading?

Welcome to the Read-the-World Book Club at The Hive. Through the club, children will read, discuss and appreciate fiction. Over four weeks, Nandini will introduce a delightful read that will be steeped in the land and culture of a place.

While reading will primarily happen at home, several engaging activities like discussions and creative writing will give children an opportunity to appreciate different points of view and showcase their understanding. Strategies like visualising, predicting, and questioning will be applied as young readers engage with the plot, characters, setting, and themes of the book. This will also serve as a platform for developing higher-level creative writing skills in later years.
