Indeed! The emotions conveyed by music do not need words to add to their meaning. Learning music can make a marked difference to the development of one's social, cognitive, and communicative skills. Music provides a joy for the soul, and more so when we understand its diverse elements, such as Rhythm, Melody, Beat, and Pitch.
In this programme, we take the first step in the world of Indian classical music, introducing students to Kalyan Thaat – one of the ten basic thaats of Hindustani classical music. Ragas in this thaat have a devotional and soothing characteristic, and are popularly sung in the evening or at the beginning of a concert.
This programme will acquaint participants with 4 popular ragas in Kalyan thaat through a combination of Indian classical and light vocal songs. While exposure to classical music will build a strong foundation, semi-classical music such as devotional songs & children’s Bollywood songs will enhance students’ interest in learning. Voice culture exercises will serve as a workout, strengthening their vocal cords, improving their vocal range, and developing a better vocal tone.
Children will also be given a basic exposure to instrumental (keyboard) music.
