Sabina Zamindar

A curious crafter

Sabina, better known as Sabi, is nimble with her fingers. Paper, wire, pebbles, threads, beads, and the like, transform into eye-catching creations when they meet with her hands. Curious of mind, Sabina has picked up craft skills from several exhibitions and workshops. She has explored, and gained an expertise in, a wide range of materials that she simply cannot keep her hands off.

Sabina began her teaching career with a group of children in a remote village. Later, she taught at a preschool, and for the last twelve years Sabina had been at Riverside school as an Educator and Material Exploration Expert. After teaching several children and adults, and after over two decades in the field of education, Sabi is currently pursuing her M.Ed.

roll, wrap, twist, twirl
explore a new material

A bunch of twisted wires may be junk, but what if you could roll them into a roly-poly rabbit? Or add an old stocking to create a bouquet of flowers? But hey, why restrict yourself to the familiar? Let your imagination run wild with a pencil, a bottle cap, a bolt, a key ring, or your grandfather’s old spectacles! Roll, wrap, encase, tie, twist, spiral, or weave a wire around them and create some amazing abstract art. Pick a pair of pliers, scissors, or some air-dry clay to help you with your creation.

Wires are a versatile medium and have long been used in making jewellery, model furniture, sculptures, wall hangings, and more. They are great for developing motor skills and imagination. What’s more, working with hands activates the chemical serotonin in our brains. Minds de-clutter, moods are happier, and stress is released. About time, you took a break from the virtual world.
