Lippan Art or Mud and Mirror art is one of the most traditional folk arts of Kutch, Gujarat symbolizing the significance of indigenous ingredients in craft. The folklores of Kutch have a lot of honor for the mud from their land. The word ‘lippan’ means clay or dung and the word ‘kaam’ denotes work.

This soulful art, which is extensively used on the walls of homes in Kutch, traditionally with utmost creativity, has found a lot of innovative inputs from artists these days. Contemporary artists have now refashioned this art to create valuable artistic products as well.

In this workshop, listen to Meera share the history and hertiage of Mud & Mirror work, the step-by-step process of creation, right from how dung is mixed with specific binding agents to make dough, to preparing the design board. As you listen, use original Kutchi mud to create a beautiful frame of Lord Ganesha to adorn your home/office for the festivities in the coming months.
