ERROLL NELSON PIRES
Long time Teacher and Textile Designer- Erroll Nelson Pires has been impassioned by the Ply Split Braiding Technique for more than 35 years. He is a master in one of a kind seamless wearable garments, sling bags, belts and happy containers by applying ply-split braiding techniques to contemporary use.
After having retired in December 2011 from National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad he now continues to conduct workshops at various Art and Design Colleges within India. He has also taught in several countries of Europe, UK, Japan and USA.
He is the only Indian Member of Braid Society, UK and conducts workshops at the international braiding conference organized by the braid society. He continues to work under the name ibraid Design in Ahmedabad.
The local Media has declared him The last "MASTER" of the PLY SPLIT BRAIDING techniques.

PLY SPLIT BRAIDING is an ancient art practiced for making elaborate camel girths and other animal regalia of hand spun goat hair wool or sometimes cotton in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The colourful patterns formed by placement of cords is alluring for eyes. Today this art is transformed into contemporary products like neckwear, bags, household decor, garments, 3D structure like baskets, sculptures etc.....

1. What resources will I need to bring for this class?
Thirst for knowledge and a pair of hands . The Hive will provide all the material for PLY SPLIT BRAIDING workshop. Don't forget to bring your masks and sanitizers along.
2. What safety precautions will be taken at The Hive?
Our premises are sanitized regularly. We will be working in small groups and social distancing norms will be strictly followed. Masks are compulsory when indoors or within close proximity. However, the participants are responsible for their own health & safety.
