little life hacks for latter-day living

code carmine

What’s common between the ability of tying a bowline knot and locating a specific point on earth? Bingo, these are survival skills, not too different from the ones used by our hunter-gatherer ancestors, only a tad tailored for urban living. Survival in any environment is reliant on our ability to take acquired knowledge and apply it in situations demanding divergent skills. But hey, why sermonize to those who appreciate their folklores? Remember the learned pundit who drowned in a flood and the ignorant farmer who swam to the shore?

Here’s an earnest invitation to learn the little hacks of life in The Hive’s very own backyard. Enough said! Begin we shall, and work our way up The Guild of Latter-day Survivors, earning badges along the way. Join the party for a one-day up-skilling experience. Return home defter, or take your money back!

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

1. Knot Tying: A surprisingly valuable skill to survive disasters. From making a rope ladder to setting up a tent to creating a stable loop to throw out to someone in the water – you never know when you may need a strong knot. Seamen, cowboys, cobblers, surgeons, climbers… all have their special knots. Begin by knowing what’s so remarkable about them and learn two basic knots for everyday use.

2. Savvy Consumerism: In a world where consumers are left to their devices after being conveniently forewarned through the ‘Caveat Emptor’ principle, how savvy are you in choosing everyday products? Take charge of your wellbeing by reading the labels and the lines between them. Be an equal to marketers.

3. Breathing Easy: What if you could breathe in and out at the same time? It ain’t merely a stunt to play a continuous note through a wind instrument, but also a meditation technique practiced by Buddhist monks to release tension from the body. Improve your air intake while getting free lessons for the world’s oldest wind instrument.

4. Accurate Geolocating:  Street addresses don’t always point to precise locations. What if you could locate any 3-meter square in the world – in a field, on a road, on a mountain, in a house – through a unique address? Address that has only 3 words? To experience the real power of digital, meet us at https://w3w.co/intersect.frogs.videos.

5. Reapplying Naturalist Knowledge: Take a leaf from our ancestors, in fact, take their entire naturalist knowledge – classification systems for living organisms and the understanding of their interrelationships. Appreciate how primitive humans utilized their wildlife tracking skills and cognizance of plants to thrive better in the natural environment, and reapply it creatively in the modern context.

6. Valuing Followership: Not everyone’s cut out to be a leader. Followership is mathematically sound. Follow it. Engage in a fun activity to understand why it is equally important as, if not more than, leadership.
